The Fake Steve Jobs
For the last 14 months, Steve Jobs has been a subject of a blog which parodies his job as the chief executive of Apple. Speculation was rife on who the mystery writer was – which entertained up to 700000 readers a month. It has attracted huge worldwide attention – both the real Mr. Jobs and Bill Gates have acknowledged reading the blog (fakesteve.blogspot.com). Fake Steve has evaded the best efforts of Silicon Valley to discover his real identity only until recently. The New York Times finally caught up with the mystery writer, Daniel Lyons, senior editor of rival Forbes magazine, who has been “expecting the call for months”.
Mr. Lyons writes and edits technology articles for Forbes. The blog will continue but under Forbes. Mr. Lyons said he felt bad and later revealed himself to his bosses and colleagues. Forbes publisher, Mr. Karlgaard said he had a good laugh and holds no grudges. “I think it is the most brilliant caricature of an important part of American culture that I’ve seen,” he said. “We’re really proud that he’s one of ours.” The blog, however, will be incorporated into Forbes.com in September.
